Montreal-based Media Ranch has won a Rose d’Or Award for Street Jungle, an unscripted series produced for Bell Media’s Canal D.
The Rose d’Or Awards honor entertainment programming from around the world, and is operated by the European Broadcasting Union. Awards were presented Wednesday (December 10) at the British Museum in London across 11 television- and radio-focused categories.
Street Jungle follows the stories of parking wardens from around the world. The series won the Rose d’Or award in the TV Reality and Factual Entertainment category, beating out BBC’s The Great British Bake Off and Who Cares from Nice Entertainment Group (Sweden).
“This award proves that with talent and hard work we can produce a series on a somewhat simple subject and make it resonate with an international audience,” Media Ranch president Sophie Ferron told Playback Daily.
She also said winning a prestigious international award like the Rose d’Or will help the company to pursue its international expansion ambitions, which this year included securing international distribution for its format True Sex Confessions. Post-production is currently underway on season three of Street Jungle, and Ferron said she hopes the prize can help prompt a fourth-season greenlight from Canal D. She’s also eyeing international markets for Street Jungle.
“We know that Street Jungle has great potential on the international market as a format and as finished program. I would love to see an Australian or a North African version of the show. We need to find a home for it outside of French Canada in 2016,” Ferron said.
